Jonathan's 5th Birthday

Jonathan turned 5 last Friday.

Back in 2013, it's almost unimaginable how things are like now. The days are long but the years are indeed, short.

I'll be taking him to his first Orientation session at his primary school tomorrow. Another milestone, another adventure.

I really hope it's not just a blink of an eye before he turns 10.

I love you and am most proud of you, Jonathan.

Success

Three scholarships, numerous exams, endless nights and days spent studying, my wife finally will get admitted to RACP and RCPA as a fellow later this year. You see, as I of often said to others, while it wasn't exactly Grey's Anatomy... and I'm no McDreamy, we met when I was a pre-exam registrar, and she was, 1st week into her internship. To see her reaching this milestone for a physician is quite something. Well done, very well done my darling.

Darling Harbour - Sydney

In Sydney for the annual SSA conference - the last time I was here was more than 5 years ago, well before Jonathan was born.

A lot has changed, the Harbourside Shopping Centre looks very dated now. Up next to it is the new Sofitel and ICC, two amazing structures. The Powerhouse Museum will also make way for other new developments.

Never say never. My impression of Sydney is quite good this time. But then again, one of my colleagues reminded me - I stayed in Darling Harbour, and that probably explained how I felt...

Kai Tak International Airport - Hong Kong

20 years! The last commercial flight flew out of Kai Tak Airport 20 years ago. That makes HKIA officially 20 years ago.

It is simply hard to believe, where has all the years gone??! I left Hong Kong when I was 13, and pretty much stayed in NZ until I made my first solo "international" trip back when I was 20, the year HKIA opened for business. I left as a Form 1 student, came back after my 2nd year in Medicine. Dramatic change in every aspects.

Reading this CNN piece, I'm astonished by how much I didn't know. How ignorant I was, essentially. I won't call myself an aviation geek, but I did tried for my Private Pilot License when I was 19, stop short of my first solo flight after discovering after all, it wasn't money well spent - especially when I wasn't spending my own money then!

Now at 40 with two young kids. My wish is that I can help expanding their horizon for this world. Thirst and curiosity for knowledge is probably one of the most important things I can help them develop..

Turning 40

Turned 40 today. Four. Zero. Wasn't it just yesterday that I celebrated my 21st? Wasn't it just yesterday, ok, not quite yesterday, but may be "a while ago"? that I was a "know it all" medical registrar? No, the reality is no. I got married in 2009, completed my advanced training in 2013 and it's 2018 now.

Wife threw an excellent party, small and nice bunch of friends. It was perfect. Wouldn't have it any other way. Of course, wouldn't have been able to do it without my parents either. Mum helped cleaning up and Dad sorted out the barbie. I know I'm blessed. Truely blessed.

Cheers to another fabulous 40 years!

Working out whilst watching Masterchef - with no kids around

No idea which season of Masterchef it is now, but still enjoy watching it. Yesterday, was watching the reply on TEN while working out 28 by Sam Wood, bliss!

Going strong

Nearly mid year... wife and I and still on the quest of personal fitness.. she's still doing F45, I'm still doing 28. Overall we're in much better shape. I am arguably in the best shape as I've ever been, which feel great. Time to update the wardrobe soon.

Got a Thermomix, joined the "cult", as some would say. It is an incredible piece of engineering. We have already made some really yummy and healthy meals with it, the challenge is to keep using it. Which I believe we will.

On the kids front, they are sleeping better, both haven't been sick for a while. Things are, good.

Less than 2 weeks for a week away with wife in Toronto..!

100 days into 2018

Two New Year resolutions were, read the bible everyday, and exercise every day. I started using the "Bible in One Year" app a few weeks before 2018 and am still doing it. Thanks to my wife, who did the F45 8 weeks challenge (and had great results!), the rebel in me decided to do something different to her. Sam Wood's 28 it was, and I'm happy to say, I'm still doing it too. Fitting into my old suits from 2010, waistline down and building muscle.

Let's continue for another 100 days at least if not forever!

Getting in shape

No picture for today's post. Really just wanted to note that since I've started exercise daily, following Sam Wood's 28 program, I've been feeling pretty good, waistline down and generally more energy. Finally practising what I preach to my patients!

This cook book is gold. Simple, delicious and yes, only 5 ingredients to buy! Some of the ingredients are as simple as garlic or onions. It's just a beauty. It makes juggling dinner prep, change nappies, clean up accidents - a bit more easier....
