What's wrong with dessert? Give me a five course dessert as dinner any day! Have to finish with dessert wine of course.

shared memory

If my memory serves me correct, it was in the year 2000. Anthony, a good mate, was busy with his final year project, I was busy with studying for my 5ht year exams but struggled to find a quiet place to go. The laboratory in the LG of the School of Engineering seems like a natural for us to get on with our work.

Seven years down the track, we have long graduated. I now frequent the Information Commons across the road for my post-grad studies. Anthony no longer needed to study - you have changed a few jobs, and in the mists of it all found the meaning of life.

This photo, dedicated to "the memory we shared" (共同回憶).

the good shepherd

Trust - the essential building block of society. Think about it next time you're stopped by the lights - you trust the other drivers to follow the lights. What underpin that trust?

The contrast is strikingly chilling. A man who ostensibly had a sincere believe in American values, who did everything he could to protect his son, would also commit repeated acts of infidelities.

One should perhaps always watch one's back. Well, the film is just 20 mins short of 3 hours, so watch you back.

Stranger Than Fiction

Sooner or later, if you haven't already realised, whether you like a movie, or anything, for that matter, really depends on your perspective.

Your point of view - as the latest round of HSBC ads put it succinctly.

Well, some have described this movie along the lines of "a meditation on life, art and romance, and on the kinds of responsibility we have. Such an uncommonly intelligent film does not often get made."

Some have also loathe the cheesiness when Gyllenhaal tells Ferrell she dropped out of Harvard Law because, "if I was going to make the world a better place, I'd do it with cookies."

Me? well, there's nothing wrong with a bit of punk in a flick like this. i just have a terrible feeling that if you ask me in a year's time what this movie was about, I probably wouldn't have a clue.

Madeleine

I have never try madeleine until a few days ago. These homemade short, plump little cakes, though, are simpily exquisite! Wikipedia tells me they are made famous outside France for their association with "involuntary memory" - sentimental.

happy birthday mike

Last night (a few hours ago) at Red in Ponsonby, the food was simply exceptional. You can't get a more euthesthic team then the one in Red - the boss, the chief, the wait staff.

The chicken pate in particular was, the best I've had for a while.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

One of the advantages of living in a city the size of Sydney is that you get a more substantial press, well, you'd expect it.

Sydney journalist Steve Dow, the author of "Gay", touched on quite a few important aspects of everyday life in his article "The good, the mad and the spiritually wealthy" in the Sydney Morning Herald.

A basic factual error tainted an otherwise reasonable piece - "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is not a phase in the US Bills of Rights. Rather, it first appeared in the US Declaration of Independence.

No, I haven't watched the movie on the big screen. It's not featuring very high on my pursuit of happiness.

Frances & Simon

The fact that music evokes emotion is a well-known and uncontested fact. Look no further then Frances and Simon's wedding website for one of the finest example.

The first background song, "童話" (literally "fairytale") by singer 光良 possibly represents the epitome of romantic songs in Chinese.

Forgotten how long it has been,
that I haven’t heard you,
telling me the stories you loved.
I’ve been thinking,
I started to panic
have I done something wrong again?

You tell me, in tears,
fairytale are lies,
I cannot be your prince.
Perhaps you won’t understand,
since you’ve said you love me,
the stars in my sky have all brighten up.

I wish to become the,
angel that you love in fairytale,
arms open, and be the wings to protect you.
You must believe,
we’ll be just like in the fairytale,
happiness is the ending.
Let’s write the ending together.

You tell me, in tears,

I want to become the,

C. S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis is probably best known for his children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. Tonight, in my mindless surf of the net, I learned quite a bit about him - described by some as the "apostle to the sceptics".

I haven't watched the big screen version of the famous children's novel. Yet I would not want to miss Shadowlands, a fictionalised version of the relationship between him and his wife. I probably can find it in Balmoral Videon..

"The moment a man seriously accepts a deity, his interest in "religion" is at an end. He's got something else to think about." C. S. Lewis

Will make a serious attempt at exploring Faith this winter.
