Christmas lights

Much has been said about Christmas in the printed media lately. From the forever controversial Anglician vicars publicly debating their views and theology (Garth George, Michael Hewat, Glynn Cardy) to a Catholic Malaysian Chinese columnist. The Herald perhaps had the last word - Merry Christmas.

I'm puzzled as to why anyone can get their knickers in a twist over this. Christmas is exactly as what is described in Wikipedia - an annual holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus. Period. Granted, it carries different meaning to different people, but so is life. I can't understand why Mr George and Mr Hewat is so upset.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion, some are certainly more inflammatory then the others, drawing parallels between Tony Blair being a Catholic with a vegatarian in a meat-eater club is certainly one.
